Training Participants Code of Conduct
Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation & Abuse (SEA)
I acknowledge that preventing Gender-based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Exploitation & Abuse are important. GBV/SEA activities constitute acts of gross misconduct and are therefore grounds for sanctions, penalties, or termination of agreement. All forms of GBV or SEA are unacceptable within or outside of the training site. Prosecution of those who commit GBV/SEA will be followed as appropriate according to applicable laws. I also acknowledge the need to maintain peaceful relationships and interactions with all trainees and members of the staff.
Specifically, I agree that while working on the IDEAS project I will:
- Maintain conflict-free relationships with the Consortium/Beneficiaries/Stakeholders of the project when such relationships and interactions become necessary.
- Consent to police background checks.
- Treat women, children (persons under the age of 18), persons with disabilities (PWD), and men with respect regardless of race, color, language, religion, political or other opinions, national, ethnic, or social origin, property, disability, birth, or other status.
- Not use inappropriate, harassing, abusive, sexually provocative, demeaning, or culturally inappropriate language or behavior towards women, children, or men.
- Not participate in sexual activity with staff members or fellow trainees, including grooming or through digital media. Mistaken belief regarding the age of the person or consent from the person is not a defense.
- Not engage in or induce sexual favors or other forms of humiliating, degrading, or exploitative behavior.
- Not have sexual interactions with community members surrounding the training centers unless it involves full consent by all parties. Sexual activity involving promises of provision of benefits in exchange for sex is considered "non-consensual" within this code.
- Attend and actively participate in training courses related to HIV/AIDS, GBV, and SEA as requested during the training.
- Report to the appropriate authorities any suspected or actual GBV and/or SEA committed by fellow trainees or breaches of this code of conduct.
Use of Trainee's Images for Work-Related Purposes
When photographing or filming for work-related purposes, I must:
- Before photographing or filming a trainee, assess and endeavor to comply with local traditions or restrictions for reproducing personal images.
- Before photographing or filming trainees, obtain informed consent from the trainees. As part of this I must explain how the photograph or film will be used.
- Ensure photographs and videos present trainees in a dignified and respectful manner and not in a vulnerable or submissive manner. Trainees should be adequately clothed and not in poses that could be seen as sexually suggestive.
- Ensure images are honest representations of the context and the facts.
- Ensure file labels do not reveal identifying information about a trainee when sending images electronically.
I understand that it is my responsibility to use common sense and avoid actions or behaviour that could be construed as GBV or SEA or breach this code of conduct. I do hereby acknowledge that I have read the foregoing Code of Conduct, do agree to comply with the standards contained therein and understand my roles and responsibilities to prevent and respond to GBV and SEA. I understand that any action inconsistent with this Code of Conduct or failure to take action mandated by this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action and may affect my ongoing engagement with the training.
